How AI will change the education system
Yeah, that’s a strong statement to make. It’s been about 2.5 years now since ChatGPT has came into our lives and man, everything has turned upside down:
The Software Devs who were boasting of 4–5 offers at a time, are now struggling big time to keep up with current jobs
Internship and Fresher jobs has nosedived big time.
No more high CTCs for a random coder
Data Science in Your Pocket – No Rocket Science
From my observation, it’s a strong signal of something big
The fall of Computer Science
Or to correct myself
The fall of Computer Science Degree
Why a Computer Science Degree a waste right now?
Very simple reason, information is accessible to anyone at a click of a button now !
Need to fine-tune LLMs? Ask ChatGPT
Want to create your own kernel for GPUs? Ask ChatGPT
Wish to build a website? Ask ChatGPT
It’s the exclusivity (not everyone can code) + application (coding is required for many tasks) which made Computer Science a sexy domain.
Now that is gone
I recently saw a 6th Grader building AI Agents on Instagram yesterday which made me realize what a waste my degree has become.
Another point I see why you should avoid a CSE degree is the rate at which the curriculum updates is dead slow compared to the rate at which the domain is progressing.
While folks are talking about LLMs and stuff, the curriculum doesn’t have AI as a mandatory course, leave about the quality
Even if, somehow, the universities are able to get the latest AI courses in their curriculum, who is gonna teach?
It’s very hard for a professor in his late 40s (that’s still young considering profs in universities) to update to the latest AI trends, almost every day.
So, the universities lack both
Good AI teachers + Latest update content
Has Computer Science as a stream lost it’s charm?
If you’re here just for a degree, definitely yes
But I feel if you are genuinely interested, there has never been a better time to be alive (I’m enjoying every bit of this AI slop).
Why?
The latest AI tools or models are reachable to anyone, be it the best LLM or Image Generation model or Frameworks for AI Agents
You’ve a machine that can teach you literally anything on this planet
The hardware require is quite feasible and is reachable to anyone
You can learn at a 100x rate compared to the pre-ChatGPT era. And, that too for free !!
What else you need?
So, if you just forget the idea of opting to study just to get a job, the world has never been so great for learners.
So, what’s the takeaway from all this?
The traditional Computer Science Degree, as it stands today, is becoming increasingly irrelevant in a world where knowledge is at your fingertips, and the pace of technological advancements is lightning-fast. The rapid evolution of AI tools has leveled the playing field, meaning anyone with curiosity and a drive to learn can build, create, and innovate without needing to rely on outdated curriculums or slow-moving academic institutions.
But don’t get me wrong — this doesn’t mean that the field of Computer Science itself is dead. Far from it. The difference is that the pathways to mastery and success are no longer confined to university lecture halls or a formal degree.
In conclusion, the real “degree” today is your ability to learn and adapt.
The digital age has democratized knowledge and, in doing so, rendered the traditional degree system — especially in fields like Computer Science — less of a necessity and more of an optional stepping stone. If you’re genuinely interested in the field, pursue it in the way that best suits your personal learning style and goals, whether that’s through self-teaching, online courses, or building real-world projects. The tools and resources are there for the taking.
The question is: Are you ready to seize them?
