How to use ChatGPT with Model Context Protocol
Model Context Protocol or MCP servers are booming all over the internet. You can now let AI control any software, whether it’s PowerPoint, Blender, Figma, Twitter, and more.

As MCP was introduced by Anthropic (parent of Cloud AI), unfortunately, most of the other chat UIs (whether ChatGPT, DeepSeek, or Grok) are not able to support MCP servers till now. Hence, most of the users are limited to MCP servers with just Claude AI desktop application or Cursor AI.
From today, you can now use MCP servers with any of your favorite chat UIs, including ChatGPT.
For this integration, I am using a super helpful GitHub repo that is MCPs SuperAssistant.
This GitHub repo is super easy to use, and once installed, it can help you integrate the MCP server with any of your favorite chat UIs, be it PowerPoint MCP or Twitter.
Steps to follow
1. Install the Chrome Extension

- Go to the Chrome Web Store and search for “MCP SuperAssistant”.
- Click “Add to Chrome” and confirm the installation.
- After installation, you’ll see the MCP SuperAssistant icon in your extensions bar.

2. Set Up the Local Proxy Server
This part connects your AI tool (e.g., ChatGPT) to your own MCP setup.
Option A: Quick Run (No install needed)
- Open your terminal or command prompt.
- Run the following command:
npx @srbhptl39/mcp-superassistant-proxy@latest --config ./mcpconfig.json
You need to replace the JSON file mentioned with your MCP config file. If you don’t know how to set this up, you can use the same config file as present in Claude application. Check the above YouTube video shared in the blog to locate this config file in Claude AI.

3. Connect the Extension to Your Proxy Server
- Open any supported AI site like ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Gemini.
- A sidebar will appear on the right. Click the server status button (usually says “Disconnected”).

Note: The sidebar might be missing in ChatGPT due to some glitch
- Click on “MCP” and turn on all buttons. Different UIs will support different integrations. For example, Chat GPT supports copy while Grok supports attachment. So depending upon the UI, use the button for integrating the MCP server instructions.

And that’s it!
Now you can use any MCP server with any chat UI. This gives a big boost because Claude AI and Cursor provide limited access, making using an MCP server a pain. But now you can use it with any of the chat UIs. I hope you try out MCP servers with your favorite chat UIs.
