How to use MCP servers other than Claude AI

Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers are really defining the definition of AI agents 2.0. You don’t require any sort of coding and can now integrate any software with AI as tools to complete your task.

As MCP was introduced by Anthropic, quite obviously it has great support for Claude and as well Cursor, but unfortunately, most of the other chat UIs like ChatGPT, GRrok, Perplexity, Google AI Studio etc. don’t support Model Context Protocol by default.

So, how to use MCP Servers with these Chat UIs?

How to get started?

1. Go to the Chrome Web Store (link) and search for “MCP SuperAssistant”.
2. Click “Add to Chrome” and confirm the installation.
3. Once installed, you’ll see the MCP SuperAssistant icon in your browser’s extensions bar (top-right corner).

4. Open Command Prompt / Terminal (Windows: Win + R → cmd / Mac: Terminal) and run

npx @srbhptl39/mcp-superassistant-proxy@latest --config your_config.json

Where your_config.json is the full path for claude’s mcp config

Done !!

Testing MCP Server integration

1. Open ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, or any supported chat UI.
2. Look for the MCP SuperAssistant sidebar (usually appears on the right).

If it’s missing (common in ChatGPT), click the extension icon in Chrome to manually activate it.

3. Click the “Server Status” button (initially says “Disconnected”).

4. Turn on all MCP integration buttons using the blue “MCP” button (each chat UI supports different features — ChatGPT allows copy-pasting, while Grok supports file attachments).

Now you can use any MCP server with any chat UI. This gives a big boost because Claude AI and Cursor provide limited access, making using an MCP server a pain. But now you can use it with any of the chat UIs. I hope you try out MCP servers with your favorite chat UIs.
